It was quite mysterious finding the pictures inside the maps in the warm-up exercise.

Mapping
We looked at sections of maps for our warm up. If we could see pictures we drew them with a pen. It really got our brains working. It was quite mysterious because you kept on finding things.
We found faces, animals and bugs, mountains and ghosts and a cartoon snail with glasses on.
Then we looked at maps of Llanelli finding the places that we knew and marking them onto acetate. We joined these places together by working out how to get to them using the maps.
After the break we worked together to make a set of drawings by using different coloured lines to represent specific journeys.
Then we had a chance to make our own map of places that are important to us.
Everyone liked making their own map and when we scored this activity it was given eight ten out of tens.
We finished the third session by tracing around one of the photographs of ourselves that we had worked on last week.

Warming up for week two
Pass it on
Week two began with another warm up exercise. We put our hand in a bag and pulled something out. We had to draw it. Then we passed our drawing on and the next person had to make a copy of our drawing. We kept this going until our original drawing came back to us.
It was fun, exciting, inspiring and full of challenges.
We then carried on with our collages from last week. They were quite hard to do but we were very pleased with them.
Things we said about them … should be in Tate Modern …very pleased with it … looks like the work of a famous artist from Tenby … the town hall looks exactly like it does…the style and effect is good, lovely, colourful…capturing the buildings in your mind …3D collage makes it stand out … smart design.
After the break we turned our attentions away from buildings to work on portraits of ourselves. First we used oil pastels on black and white photocopies of photographs and then we used paint.
It was fun … I liked it … I enjoyed it … it was amazing.

Drawing buildings from memory
Me and my town
Me and my town is the second in the series of art projects that will make up the Big Picture: Llanelly House and involves working with a group of pupils from Old Road School.
Launching straight in we began with a warm up, drawing different buildings and places all around the world, without lifting our pencils off the paper.
It was a little bit hard thinking of buildings to draw. We wondered how many buildings there are on earth.
Guy and Pip from spacetocreate told us about the project and how we would record what we are doing on this blog.
After the break we each made a line drawing from a photograph of a famous building in Llanelli. We used acetates and special pens to make a copy of this drawing and then used our original drawings to make a collage.
You will have to wait til next week to see the finished artworks as we didn’t have time to complete them!
We ended the session by talking about how we felt about what we had done and these are some of the things we said…proud, happy, good, co-operative, easy and fun! There was also a shared sense of anticipation and excitement to be coming back next week.
